Similarities:

  • Fruits tended to be grouped by similarities (e.g., melons together, berries together, etc.)
  • The produce section was near the front of the store
  • Fruits were displayed in open-air stands (i.e., not in shelving, making it easy to see the bright colors of large quantities of fruit)

Differences:

  • Target had a prominent "picks of summer" section, while the other two's seasonal sections were much less pronounced
  • Watermelon was in the front of Walmart, but not displayed prominently in Publix and Target
  • The prices in Walmart were displayed in huge letters, while the other stores displayed prices in much smaller font
  • Walmart grouped apples, peaches, and plums in the same section, while Target and Publix kept apples in their own section
  • Publix and Walmart had prominent prepared/cut fruit sections, while Target's was not a focal point
