Fruit #1: Kiwi
I tried kiwi for the first time today. I bought one from Publix. They all looked the same to me, and I don't know how to pick a ripe kiwi, so I picked one from the display almost at random. I washed it and then sliced it. I decided to eat it with the skin on (the internet said it was fine to eat it with or without the skin). It was pretty good. A bit more acidic/tart than I expected, and it certainly had an interesting texture (from the skin, I think). However, I did enjoy it overall. It kind of tasted like the combination of a strawberry and a pear. Kiwis are the most prominent fruit from their family, Actinidiaceae, and are classified as berries.
Fruit #2: Apricot
The next fruit I tried was the apricot, which I also bought from Publix. It was quite tasty, I really enjoyed it. I like dried apricots and eat them semi-frequently, but this was my first time trying a fresh apricot. It has a mild flavor, very similar to cantaloupe, and was refreshing and just generally tasty. I would definitely eat it again. I took off the skin (as the internet said that the skin's flavor was sometimes bitter) and removed the pit. The apricot is in the Rosaceae family (and in the Prunoideae subfamily with plums, cherries, almonds, and peaches). Apricot fruits are drupes.
Fruit #3: Plum
The third and final fruit that I tried was the plum, which, like the others, I bought from Publix (there was a display that pointed out that plums are currently in season, and thus I figured it would be a great one to try). I took out the pit and cut it into slices, but left the skin on. I liked it as well. It also had a pretty mild flavor, but it was a bit more flavorful than the apricot, with hints of tartness present. I enjoyed it. The plum is in the Rosaceae family (and in the Prunoideae subfamily with apricots, cherries, almonds, and peaches). Like apricots, plum fruits are drupes.
